How do we design climate resilient cities?

2025 was the hottest UK summer on record, with over 1,000 people dying from climate change related heatwaves.

With extreme heat becoming the norm for British summers, bringing with it wildfires, cracking roads and severe droughts, is it time for the UK to start designing for disaster?

Looking to our European neighbours, shading and heat management are staples of their building design with shutters being a common sight in streets and towns. In contrast, our buildings are being exposed as woefully inadequate to keep us cool and sheltered.

Is it as simple as planting more trees? Or does our city’s infrastructure need to be working harder? Can we design a solution that keeps our homes cool in summer but warm in winter?

We’re bringing together Architects, Scientists, Local Government and the Public to find ways to keep our homes and cities cool in the face of climate emergency.

With our summers getting too hot to handle we need to take action now.

If you’re passionate about climate change and its impact on our city, bring your ideas and join the conversation.

6 O’Clock Sessions:

Imagine a place where public, politicians and professionals come together to debate the future of our cities. The 6 O’Clock Sessions are home to informed civic debate – topical discussion with a twist. These sessions are participatory in nature – different opinions are welcome, heard and respectfully challenged. Just the tonic for our polarised times. Everyone welcome.
