Join author and historian Jane Duffus for an unmissable evening celebrating Bristol’s hidden heroines, as we delve into her new book The Women Who Built Bristol: Vol 3.

Following on from the 500 women already profiled in Volumes One and Two of this popular series, ANOTHER 250 extraordinary (yet, often, ordinary) women feature in Volume Three. Including: the two girls thrown over the Clifton Suspension Bridge by their desperate father (spoiler alert: they survived) and a woman who quite literally built (bits of) Bristol by virtue of owning a building company.

Expect humour, passion and inspiration in equal measure as Jane brings these remarkable women vividly to life. We uncover the campaigners, creators, engineers, and everyday pioneers whose stories deserve to be told. Plus the chance to hear from Jane about her research (and her favourite tales!).

Whether you’re a historian, designer, activist or simply curious about the city you call home, this is your chance to see Bristol in a whole new light – a Bristol built on courage, ingenuity and sheer determination by those whose stories you never knew until now.

About the Author

Jane Duffus qualified as a journalist in 2001 and has worked as a journalist and editor for countless best-selling national magazines. After moving from London to Bristol, Jane set up the award-winning What The Frock! The event takes place at The Architect, Bristol, BS1 4QA
