Street Photography

Develop your eye for urban photography in the heart of Bristol.

This 6-week evening course offers a practical introduction to photographing the city’s built environment – no specialist equipment required. Whether you’re completely new to photography or looking to sharpen your eye, you’ll learn how to get more from the camera you already have, including your phone.

With a mix of time out on location and classroom-based editing and review, the course is designed to be hands-on and responsive. You will explore different parts of Bristol, from historic squares to urban street art, before reflecting on your work and developing your images back at Design West.

Along the way, we’ll cover key techniques for composition, light, and framing, as well as accessible approaches to editing. The focus throughout is capturing the city more clearly, and connecting to it through street photography.

COURSE SUMMARY

• When? – Monday evenings (Mon 8 June – Mon 13 July) to fit easily around a busy workweek
• Where? – Design West on the Bristol’s waterfront
• Who? – taught by Bristol Modernist’s Andrew Eberlin & Elliott Sargent
• Suitable for? – open to both newcomers and those returning to sketching

With an emphasis on observation, experimentation, and practical skills, this course is ideal for anyone interested in documenting and interpreting the urban environment through photography.

• The Assembly is on the first floor and is fully accessible via a lift in The Architect.

Course Materials

Students can take part in this course with any camera they like (even a smartphone). The focus will be on photo composition & editing.
