About the Author

Peter Stanford is a writer, journalist and broadcaster. His books include biographies of the Labour Cabinet minister and penal reformer, Lord Longford (made into a BAFTA-winning film); the Poet Laureate, C Day-Lewis; the Protestant Reformer Martin Luther and, most recently, the Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí. His writings on the history, theology and cultural significance of religious ideas range from The Devil: A Biography (televised by the BBC), Heaven: A Traveller’s Guide and The She-Pope: The Legend of Pope Joan. They have been translated into twelve languages. He is director of the Longford Trust for prison reform.
