Welcome to Bristol Jazz Club.

Jazz meets folk in a twisting, turning affair

Nationally acclaimed singer songwriter, Sam Brookes is the moment. His track “Black Feathers” is currently featured in The Day of the Jackal, Sky’s biggest original series to date, and his latest album was produced by Grammy-nominated Dom Monks (Laura Marling, Nick Cave).

Though originally inspired by the British and American folk revivalists of the ’60s, Brookes has since carved a sound that resonates far beyond genre — drawing on jazz, folk and indie influences, and bringing an improvisational spirit that makes each performance unique.

A gifted vocalist with a remarkable four-octave range, Brookes glides effortlessly between registers. His pure tone, evocative lyrics, and melodic sophistication give his songs a rare emotional depth — reminiscent of artists like Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley, and John Martyn.

A soaring, clear-as-a-bell voice” – The Sunday Times

Also known for Supalung, his collaborative project with genre-blurring artist Pete Josef and for being part of Bristol supergroup The John Martyn Project, Brookes brings his distinctive solo voice to Bristol Jazz Club for an intimate, atmospheric evening.

With roots that intertwine with Bristol’s rich musical fabric, this appearance feels like a homecoming of sorts — and a perfect fit for the city’s jazz scene.

“There are vast emotional reserves at work, reminiscent of the great Tim Buckley” The Independent
