About the course

Explore the wonders of 20th century Western Art, from the revolution of Picasso’s Cubism to the dizzying visual challenge of Op Art.

Whether you’re looking to rediscover your love of art, to use the course to inspire your practice, or simply to broaden your art history knowledge, this 6-week course guides you through the rapids of modern art.

We include the Futurists’ obsession with speed and mechanisation, the pure coloured geometries of Mondrian; the British continuity from Post-Impressionism through Camden Town and the Bloomsbury group; Surrealist dreamscapes and the postwar developments of Pollock, Rothko, Warhol and Lichtenstein.

Led by celebrated art historian & social historian Andrew Foyle, this course is the third in his History of Art series, charting a timeline of European and North American Art from 1900 – c.1970.

As well as being inspired, you will also leave with a strong understanding of Western Art throughout the 20th Century, and will be able to recognise the distinctive styles of the key players in each movement.
